Decent, family-friendly Japanese chain that’s good for satisfying simple cravings or treating the kids (and their friends). One thing we like about Ichiban Boshi is that the menu keeps evolving. Our last visit was about three years ago, and there were already quite a few new items we didn’t remember seeing before. The Oroshi Ponzu beef ($18.90 for 8 small cuts) is good value for a restaurant setting. It’s labelled premium, though I’d say it’s closer to an A2-grade equivalent — some marbling, tender, better than average, but not top-tier. It comes on a hot stone, so you can control the doneness yourself, which makes it more enjoyable. The chicken cheese curry wazen was decent. The karaage was juicy, and the curry is very mildly spiced — kid-friendly for sure. It also comes with a small tempura set (ebi plus a couple of vegetables), which makes it quite worth it. The Kaisen Kobore Sushi could have been presented closer to the menu photo, but at $5 the portion is reasonable. It’s like a mini chirashi don — great if you’re craving chirashi but don’t want something too heavy or want to try a few dishes. Overall, a nice value-for-money spot for casual Japanese dining.
