Fhoul Madinah Istimewa is a long-standing stall at Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre, believed to have been around since 1960. It specialises in kacang pool, a Southeast Asian adaptation of fava bean stew, served with diced shallots, sliced green chillies, and a fried bull's-eye egg on top, accompanied by sliced baguettes for dipping. On weekends and public holidays, the stall also offers shakshuka, a unique local rendition that is brown and earthy rather than the typical tomato-red version, with bits of meat and grilled onions mixed in. The stall sits on the second floor of the iconic Geylang Serai Market, surrounded by other Malay and Muslim food vendors. Its kacang pool has been praised for its rich, slightly coarse texture that sets it apart from other stalls, while the shakshuka is a genuinely distinctive dish that draws curious diners from across the island. Both dishes are simple, satisfying, and perfect for sharing as a starter or a light breakfast. Make a trip to Geylang Serai on a weekend morning, order the kacang pool, and if you are lucky, try the shakshuka too. It is old-school Malay-Arab comfort food at its finest.Operating Hours

Delicious kacang pool/fhoul. My family and I have eaten here every time we visit Singapore since my grandpa took my dad when he was a kid

Loved the kacang pool. Delicious hearty flavor profile. Accompanying bread was fresh and crispy.

This place is underrated. Seller was friendly, polite, and always smiling. Really love the taste of their Shakshuka and Kacang Pool as compared to the ones at Eunos market. My favourite Shakshuka and Kacang Pool place-to-go since 2019, though the stall has been around longer. Taste is consistent all these years.
